A man in his 30s who attended the Boxing Day Test between India and Australia at the MCG last month has tested positive for COVID-19. Authorities have warned others who were present in the stadium to get tested for COVID-19.

According to reports, the state health authorities said that the man has possibly contracted the virus in Melbourne Cricket Ground or at a nearby shopping center because he was not infected when he attended the match on the second day at the famed Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Victoria’s Department of Health said, “The MCG is being investigated as a potential source for the infection.”

“We’re encouraging anyone who was in The Great Southern Stand, zone 5 of the MCG between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm on 27 December, to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.”

The Boxing Day Test is a memorable event in the sporting calendar of Australia. The second match which was held between India and Australia was won by India and attended by 30,000 people.

The news came out during the third test between Australia and India which sparks controversy because it was held in Sydney which is the epicenter of a recent outbreak in Australia.

The second test match also sparked controversy because five Indian players were alleged of breaching the COVID-19 protocol and went to an indoor restaurant in Melbourne. However, the Indian players tested negative before they flew to Sydney for the third Test.
